Principal Mechanical Design Engineer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Design Engineer within our Silverstone based Electrification Team, specializing in Mechanical Design of Battery and HV Systems.
Job Description:
Due to our continued growth, we are looking for a highly motivated Engineer with a demonstrated ability for design and development in a fast-paced environment.
The Role:
- Reporting to our Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for helping to lead the engineering team.
- Support the team to produce robust design solutions that arise from new product design and test requirements, customer requests and other ad hoc activities.
- You must have a sound knowledge of engineering principles and materials, and an ability to apply your experience creatively in the development of world-leading innovative products.
- Working to a range of industry standards for quality and validation, you will be capable of providing solutions backed up with a robust methodology that will keep Delta at the forefront of technology in the years ahead.
- Consider the health and safety, environmental and energy impact of all activities.
- Support the Company’s compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, following policy and best practice.
- This role will allow for hybrid working after completion of probation period.
Candidate Profile:
- Degree or time served as a Mechanical Engineer with minimum 5 years’ experience in a design and development environment.
- Strong experience of CAD software, preferably CATIA V5, with the ability to create design concepts, assemblies and fully dimensioned drawings.
- You will have an excellent understanding of High Voltage Battery Systems and their associated architecture.
- Be familiar with Battery System and HV system Verification and Validation methods.
- Understand interactions between the Battery and Battery Management Systems and the Design requirements of cell, module & pack integration within applications.
- Analytical problem solving without intervention.
- Demonstratable experience in leading a team of design engineers.
- Consistent and high-level performer.
- Take ownership of assigned project output quality.
- Follow and investigate company processes and be able to advise others how to use them.
- Process and procedure developments.
- Able to investigate and implement new technologies.
- Contribute to concept engineering tools with a strong understanding of DFM in both prototype/low volume and series production.
- Guide and coordinate work allocation across multiple projects.
- Be flexible to undertake any other design duties to support the wide range of projects undertaken or reasonably requested to meet departmental / company goals.
- Understand the Fundamentals of Electric Vehicle System Design (especially Batteries) and use cases.
- Have experience of Design of Electric Vehicle Propulsion systems and be passionate about renewable energy system design.
- Have experience of Analysis Tools used in support of your Designs such as FEA or CFD.
- Have a good understanding of GD&T and its practical application.
- A high level of vehicle design experience would be an advantage.
- Expected to absorb and disseminate knowledge accumulated on project within Delta Cosworth.
